Life on the road in a motorhome.

Week Two at Escapee CARE Center, as a workamper Volunteer

Took a morning photo hike around the rv park to see if I could get any good photographs. Then went into town to stock up on supplies like chicken, because it seems like each meal here so far has been beef of one type or other.  The remainder of the day will be spent getting my rig cleaned and things setup the way I like. Oh yah I have Saturday and Sunday off. Tonight will go play cards with the folks…

Sunday ( day two week two ) ….  Did my morning walk to see what I could find to photograph. Did see a few birds and some furry rats.. Found out that my partner can not drive, reason unknown, so on drive day I am alone to do whatever  driving is needed. Not much else going on today waiting to see who wins the Super Bowl. ( BIG WOP ) Played cards and Wii bowling last night. First time on Wii, lost first game, but tied for first in the second..

Long day at CARE.. My team was assigned to driving, but my partner can not drive so I did four of the five scheduled runs, backup driver had to take the fifth one because I was already out. Another rainy day made driving less then fun…  So ends day  three of this week.. Played cards and lost every game, could not make a bid to save my life. If I bid 3 I would get 2 or 4, bid 5 get 2, one time I bid 4 and got 6..  Love playing but it stops being fun if you always losing and have not a chance in %^&* of winning.  I like to at least be in the running, losing 600 to 150 is no fun…

Wednesday, Day four….  Day begins with lots of fog. Not schedule to do much of anything until 4pm, then doing overnight on call duty. That means tonight at dinner take head count, then help kitchen staff cleanup. It was a good night, nothing happened..

Day Five, Today we have a volunteer meeting… Meeting only confused me. Some of the volunteers are putting a check-sheet  together on what needs to be done for each position. Just another sheet that most people will not look at. Same thing was done last year. Also talk about changing the schedule so that same people do not work weekends all the time. If that gets changed and I work this weekend after making plans based on current schedule ……  first response is I am out of here….  but then again I will talk it out first and see what can be done…  I am set to go to Houston on Saturday and Waco on Sunday in a rental car……. Ahhhhh!!!!!

New schedule was posted but I am still good for this weekend. Tonight worked in the kitchen from 1pm to 6pm, helping the cook and cleaning up after the meal. This is the longest day of the week, so not bad…

Day Six, Easy day only worked for 1.5 hours then off the rest of the day. Not much going on at this time, weather has been overcast or raining for the last few days.

My Pal Spencer turned 8 Years old today 2/7/2013

This has not been a good morning!!!!  First because I had to be in the kitchen at 0700, I walked Spencer at 6:15am when it was still dark and stepped in a pile of horse shit… Fun getting it off before going into the kitchen… What was horse shit doing at an RV park you ask?? Seems some relatives of a resident received permission to ride them in the field, but then also road them on the road. I am not going to be the one to clean it up…. Next crappy thing was breakfast… It was the big one of the week. Most days it is just the residents and it is a continental breakfast no more then 15 people tops. Friday is open to everyone for $4.00 you get full breakfast eggs cooked to order. So we get a lot of non-residents and a lot of the residents that normally do not eat breakfast come. To say the least it makes for a lot to cleanup after everyone has eaten.. Only two of us where on-hand to clean and restock because the people that should have helped did not show up until lunch time… What should have been a three hour duty turned into five.. Then there was the third really, really, totally sad and crappy thing…  Fred who I made friends with last  year, and part of the reason I came back died in the hospital this morning, it was announced during lunch.. I thought it would have been nice to have waited until everyone had eaten before making the announcement, but that is just me..

Hope the rest of the day is better… I am scheduled to pick up a rental car at 4pm.. Then going to treat myself to a good meal away from here… Will get a new phone because my current one will not hold a charge…

So end week two at CARE
