At LoW Hi Ranch Deming NM

Staying in Deming for the week, leave on the 20th. Looks like we might see some sunshine today ( Saturday 14th ) I know the rain is needed but it would be better it it came slow over time and not all at once. State is now dealing with floods and this on the heals of a major drought.

Anyway today was a nice day, only partly cloudy and no rain. We took advantage of the wether and went to a Winery here in Deming that I have visited before, both purchased three bottles each.

Then we had lunch at a Mexican Restaurant  called Irma’s..  Sorry to say I was not impressed with the chicken burrito, chicken was dry and nothing else to help it.. Could have used something like gravy, or some spices, or something!!!

During one of the dog walks I took a few photos of things around camp..

After returning to the Ranch we spent the evening playing cards, with some of the other campers.

Wet but Safe

Well folks we moved from Bottomless Lakes SP near Roswell NM to Oliver Lee SP near Almorgado NM..  Only 140 miles but we took a break about 60 miles away at a casino. Spent two hours playing the slots not winning a thing, in fact we both lost.  Drove through rain a few times nothing major, biggest problem of the day was parking the rig. This park has a strange setup, the site looks big enough to be a pull through but…..  because of the locations of the power and water we had to disconnect the car and dolly, then I had to turn around to come in from the opposite direction before pulling in then backing up to the power and water. Never seen this setup before. But we are in and have the place almost to ourselves..

Once we had everything setup, it was time to find a place to eat dinner, we have not been to a restaurant in some time.  Went online and found a place called Memories Restaurant.

This place is set in a  Victorian home in a residential neighborhood  on the edge of historic downtown. This restaurant serves excellent food in an old-world setting, in what  was once the living room and den, creating a casual, comfortable atmosphere. Suzanne ordered the coconut shrimp with sweet potato fries, I had the Tuna steak and a side of onion rings. I believe it safe to say we both loved the house and the food was the best. I give it a five out of five.

Oh almost forgot… we stopped to check out the Oliver Lee General Store on the way to dinner.  Sad to say it is no longer in operation so all I could do is get some photos of the buildings and the mountain in the back. Always find old buildings interesting.

Safe at Bottomless 9/5/2013

Arrived at Bottomless Lakes SP NM.  Only a minor problem, my right rear hubcap came off about a mile before getting to camp, it is now in the back seat of the car.  Had every thing down and relaxing by 1pm.. Went into Roswell NM for dinner, and to check out the laundry we will need to use in the morning.  Not much to say about the first day..

Okay second day and laundry has been completed, also stopped at Subway and purchased a sandwich for dinner. What to do next??? I know start the chicken chile so it is ready for lunch tomorrow..

Chicken cooked now to simmer for several hours with all the ingredients and spices.  Will be ready for lunch tomorrow…

Photo galley of the Wetland trail here at Bottomless. I am amazed at how wet it is compared to last year, maybe we will see more birds this winter.. Did not see much today except dragon flies and butterflies. ( both too fast for me today )

mmmmmmmm

Last Day near a Big City for a spell [I Hope ]

Tomorrow we head for Grand Mesa Co. and the “Island Lake Campgrounds”. Will be camped at the lake for two weeks and do not know if we will have internet, phones, or television. Even so we are both looking forward to leaving this rv camp, it is nothing but an asphalt parking lot with water and electric. I will admit it was nice to get things done like fixing the flat, getting cheese, restocking food and finding items to finish projects.

Speaking of projects, I have been looking for something to use as a spice rack so we could get them out of the cabinets and into a place I can find what I want when I need it.  To make a long story short, we are using three napkin holders as spice racks, looks more like speakers then racks but I think it will work..

Only other thing we did today was take all four dogs in to Pet Smart to have claws cut, and a shampoo and brush….  Okay Spencer did get a full groom, after all he is the oldest of the four not to mention the most fur and most tangles when not brushed..

Today’s Adventures from the “Road Warriors S&S “

Today we set out to  visit Highland Manor Winery to take a tour and taste the wine, also hoping to pick up a bottle or two.  There was only one employee there today, and she was not able to do a tour. We ended up walking around the gift shop looking at what was for sale.  Suzanne and I each picked out some small food items that looked interesting. The best part of the gift shop to me was all the images of the horses, some photos, some not. Once done looking around it was time to do some wine tasting…

The tasting, of course, was the best part! She was very patient while we tasted  the wines that we had picked out.  I was only going to pick out 3 to purchase, but with a 10% discount for a dozen we each got six. ( really 5 kinds with two or three each ) . They’re all sweet wines, which is what I like to drink most of the time. The prices are reasonable, and you can see the range on their website. You can also order online and have it shipped to you. I do suggest  visiting if you’re in the area.   It is a bit in the middle of nowhere for city folks, but if you like wine it is worth the trip..

Did I mention this is the oldest winery in the state of Tennessee??? I will not try to redo what is already on the web, so if interested here is the url to the winery webpage.

After the winery it was time for lunch so we asked the lady for a place she thought was good. Without going into detail let’s just say the first seven places we tried were either out of business, did not open for at least an hour, or only open Thursday,Friday, Saturday…  It was not until we had stopped at a BBQ place ( closed ) next to a gas station that we got directions to a place that was open. It was Chinese “Peking Buffet ” and was it good.  So glad all the other places were closed..  This may have been the best Chinese food I have ever had, if not then it was awful  close to it..  If not for the fact that I just could not eat another bite I might still be eating..

Then because it was in the same strip mall we  went to IGA to look around, then Tractor Supply to get information on solar panel. At Tractor Supply we picked up dog food and saved a stop next Monday at a Pet-smart..  All in all a very good day..

Last photo of this blog the five Wines we purchased..

Dog Creek Park 2013 Part Two

Sunday June 02

Not much going on today, Boy sCouts have taken over the park. Went to Wal Mart to pick up a few odds and ends, but mostly just to have something to do. I now have games on the computer and downloaded a few books to my nook so may not go crazy after all. Did have a nice Sunday dinner of pork roast, rice and sweet potato, so we are eating will if nothing else. One week to go before we move on to our next place, this one will be in TN..

Monday  June 03

Today we went to visit the birth place of Abraham Lincoln, it is a National Park day only. I have to say the price was right, cost was nothing. Made for a nice walk and did learn some things but to tell the truth I was not real impressed. Best part about the trip was on the way back we found an Amish lady selling strawberries  at a corner, so we stopped and brought some. Oh my are there good!!!! Asked if she knew anyone selling farm fresh  eggs, and as luck would have it she does but did not have any with her. She gave us directions to her home and we drove to get us some good eggs. Picked up two dozen and will use some tonight to make refried rice with pork for dinner.. Oh boy I love fresh food…

Tuesday  June 04

Just a laid back day in camp, most of the weekenders are gone except for the scouts. Spending the day reading, playing games, and walking the dogs. Did get a few photos taken today…

Had Lunch at Lambert’s Cafe

Lambert’s Cafe

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Lambert’s is all about the experience. I have been reading some complaints  about the food, which I really don’t understand. I loved it. I had a full stomach and still took home enough for dinner tonight.  The service was great from the time we went in until the time we paid and walked out.  The type of  decor fits this place, after all it is not meant to be a fancy dress-up spot.  Heard tell of people waiting for up to  two hours to get a table, must be all about when you go because we waled right in no waiting. I am a big fan of the fried okra it was the first food to come around “pass arounds” . For my entree, I ordered the charbroiled chicken breast with sides of Yams and sweet potato fries. The chicken was tender and  juicy. Really, the texture was fantastic. However, I found myself dousing every bite in BBQ sauce – I believe this was due to a lack of seasoning on the chicken itself. Loved the Yams and Sweet fries both were great.

They have employees walking around with “pass arounds” of fried okra, fried potatoes, macaroni and tomatoes, black eyed peas, and sorghum and honey. These are extra food you can get at no extra charge if you ordered from the menu! They walk around with buckets of these “pass arounds” and scoop it onto your plate if you request it. I filled up on okra and rolls before my entree even arrived. Lambert’s is known for their throwed rolls. They literally throw the rolls at you from across the room. The roll I had was fresh and hot, tasted great, confused about some of the negative reviews I have been reading.

Lambert’s does not take reservations. You have to put your name down once you arrive, if a waiting list is in effect.  The longest I have heard anyone waited for a table was 3 hours. Yes, that’s a really long time but that’s how great some people feel this restaurant is. It’s not just about the food, it has become about tradition.

Not sure I will ever be back to Branson but if I am I will try to visit Lambert’s again.

If I was not ready to move on before, I am NOW!!!

I check the menu each day to see if I can eat or not at the CARE Center, because I can not eat anything with cheese, milk, beef, or any other product that has something from a cow. It is a “MAJOR” trigger  to bring on a strong bronchitis attack. This month I have been able to eat 19 out of the 58 meals, if it had been Ham as the menu said tonight. So now down to 18 out of 58. Problem is I was planning to eat the Ham tonight so have nothing here to eat… My frozen food is long gone, have not had fresh for weeks, already eaten any of the can stuff I had, so tonight will have to make due with coffee…  My cupids are empty and so am I… Next two nights are going to be fun… Per the menu I can eat lunch but not dinner my last two nights…  Going to be hungry when I leave Saturday..

First stop Saturday is the Flying J and Denny’s for something to eat… Having a class A in a park 11 miles from closes food sucks..  This makes the third time I wish I still had my Class C so I could go to town and shop, or even go to a restaurant when something like this happens..

Okay 63 hours and I will be on the road and back in control of my food. I guess I am just pissed that the menu was changed….. Did I mention that tonight is now soup???? When I looked at it I knew I did not want to gamble on eating it, my bet is it has cream of something in it…  Also soup is a food only to be eaten if home made and not from a can…

LoW Rally Day of Games

Thursday Nov 1st

Day stared with a pancake breakfast and the dedication of a new Patio. Food and coffee was good.. Today is mostly a day of games…. games of golf and baseball will never be the same to me again…

Ladder golf is played in teams using colored balls attached by a string, try to wrap it around a ladder to score. Sounds easy but it is harder then you think.

Then Bean Bag Baseball…. enough said…. look and learn..

Happy hour had a trail for one of the ladies that did not dress up at all for halloween, her lawyer tried to get her due to insanity  but judge said seeing that we are all insane it was not a proper reason, and she was found guilty and fined .25 cents..

Happy hour also had the nekid chef, talking about spices ( sort of )….

Dinner today was Polynesian Chicken, rice pilaf, veggies, and dessert… Must supply your own plates ETC…..

After Dinner was a card game and then campfire.. Not a bad day at all..
