Caballo For two weeks

After doing Dogs and birds, I only had a short wait for the LP to be disconnected and I was on my way. After not driving the rig for several months I was surprised how easy it was to get back behind the wheel and drive. Stopped off at Cortez LP to get my onboard tank filled, then Wal Mart for printer supplies and some snack food. Pulled into my new home ( two weeks ) at noon and started to set things up. Made it in just in time to beat the high winds, I forgot how much fun this rig is to drive even in light winds.

All set up and dogs had first walk of the day at the park, will walk Spencer alone for now on. three is too much with all the new sights, sounds, and people. Love looking out my window and seeing trees and mountains and not any thing on the ground.

Hope to get some photos in the next day or so, plan to go on one hike a day without a dog so I can look at things. But for now here is what I see from my rig, and the rig at new site.

Staying busy fixing up my site

My hands get a little bit better each day, but still taking things slow. I have been doing about 4 to five hours work trying to get the hilltop area looking nice. Have made some progress, but need help from some of the men on Tuesday to move the heavy stuff.

Sunday night we had our first campfire/cook out of the year hoping to do it every Sunday until it is too hot. It is nice to just sit around the fire and talk knowing we do not have to rush.

Today I got to see the white Peacock stunt his stuff and even had my camera with me.

Made a replacement sign for the site I am in and completed the last one for the lower rv sites.

Dogs and I had a fun morning

No yard work today… First thing on the schedule was a visit to the spanking new Wal – Mart in Tucson Az. This store is less then 10 miles from the house so food shopping  should now take less time and gas.  I still say the paper announced it was to open at 7am, so I arrived at 6:50 only to be told it was not going to open until 8am.  So I walked the dogs around for a little and then the ceremony started. Had to see what was going on, first part was speeches by folk patting each other on the back for the great job in getting the store and built in Tucson. Next we had the handing out of oversized checks to several charities. Now the part that I liked and was happy I had not missed it, was when a  company of young boys and girls danced for us. Then we had the national anthem sung by the manager of the garden department, I have to give credit were it is due…. She did a very good job, better then some of the so called stars have done.. At the end of her singing we went shopping. The store looks and feels just like any other Wal Mart I have ever been to but it is nice to have it so close.

After leaving Wal – Mart I intended to head back to the house, but then decided to go for a photo hike in Colossal Cave Mountain Park. I did not go to the cave but checked out the Ranch and camping areas. All I have to say is I am glad I did not try to take an RV down any of the roads. I do not recommend the camps sites for anyone in a rv/camper over 16 ft..  On the other hand if you are the type that likes remote feeling places and tent camp, then this place is perfect. Took a few photos but nothing to talk about. The best ones ( my opinion) are the ones in B/W .  One good thing the walk did was wear out the dogs, both are now sleeping… LOL…

Photo hunt out of Reed Point MT.

Took the car to check out three fishing areas around Reed Point Mt. There are many others within a 50 mile radius but only did the three.

Pelican – River Right, Mile 442

3 camp sites; concrete boat ramp; access for trailers; latrine; open during established hunting seasons with no weapons restrictions. Directions: I-90 Exit 392 to North Frontage Road, west 12.2 miles, then north 0.3 miles on Lower Sweet Grass Road.

Have to say I was not real impressed with this one as a photo hunt area or even a great fishing spot. It was okay but if I was still fishing it is not the one for me.

Bratten – River Right, Mile 434

5 camp sites; gravel/river bottom boat ramp; access for trailers (max trailer length 25 ft); latrine; open during established hunting seasons with no weapons restrictions; Clark on the Yellowstone interpretive site. Directions: I-90 Exit 392 to North Frontage Road, then west 4.5 miles.

Second stop was better then the first, at least it had a hiking path away from the boaters, and I got a few nice shots.

Indian Fort – River Right, Mile 430

20 camp sites – fee charged; gravel/river bottom boat ramp; access for trailers; latrine; discharge of weapons prohibited.

Directions: I-90 Exit 392, to North Frontage Road, then north .5 mile to first left after crossing the bridge.

Okay now this is what I am talking about… If I was setup for solar and still fished, no never mind the fishing…. This is the place I would like to go if I ever come back to Reed Point, the camp sites are big enough for this 34ft rig and some are even pull throughs. So fill up the water in town ( about a mile ) have working solar and you have a great place for seven days.. If you like to fish I also think this was the best of the three..

During the drive to and from the fishing camps, I did get some shots of things around Reed Point MT..

Last Day near a Big City for a spell [I Hope ]

Tomorrow we head for Grand Mesa Co. and the “Island Lake Campgrounds”. Will be camped at the lake for two weeks and do not know if we will have internet, phones, or television. Even so we are both looking forward to leaving this rv camp, it is nothing but an asphalt parking lot with water and electric. I will admit it was nice to get things done like fixing the flat, getting cheese, restocking food and finding items to finish projects.

Speaking of projects, I have been looking for something to use as a spice rack so we could get them out of the cabinets and into a place I can find what I want when I need it.  To make a long story short, we are using three napkin holders as spice racks, looks more like speakers then racks but I think it will work..

Only other thing we did today was take all four dogs in to Pet Smart to have claws cut, and a shampoo and brush….  Okay Spencer did get a full groom, after all he is the oldest of the four not to mention the most fur and most tangles when not brushed..

Another Fourth of July….. and we are still here

Okay folks, I guess I unloaded a bit in my last blog. Yes things are not going as well as I would like, but then a lot of folks have it a lot worse. Today being the 4th of July I am glad that I am an American, and “fucking proud” that I served back when we were baby killers and not all heros. That is all about that….

So the last week or so have not gone well, broke down on the road, had to stay in a small motel room and could not leave the dogs, repair shop did less then a great job, and then it seems like I have a project each and every day to fix something on the rig. Today I got on the roof and replaced one vent cover ( black tank ) and put one on the refrigerator  vent to stop rain water from going down, also patched three places on the roof that looked like possible leaks. The only thing that worked without and problems was patching the leaks, the vents took almost two hours when it should have taken less then 30 min.. Whoever did the vents last time only had 1/2 an inch of pipe, takes almost 2 inches above the roof for it to vent correctly. Was not fun digging it out and redoing, but that seems to be the norm with this unit. Each time I go to do something I have to first fix what was done before…

Did have a small bit of luck on one of my dog walks, and the photos below are the results…

Nothing exciting today

Did  a drive through of Sugerite Canyon SP, not much to show. It was all brown or burnt from the fires two years ago. Then went shopping to pick up a few items, checked out the place to get propane when we leave. Plan to do laundry, walk the dogs a few time and then spend the rest of the time doing nothing…

Photos of the day Las Vegas NM

Took a short photo hike this morning just to see if Storrie Lake Park had anything to photograph.. Took 20 min to get to the so call Lake shore, then I did see some birds but not many. Walked around until I was too cold to walk anymore ( 35f ) and returned to the rig. Not much of a walk as far as getting photos.

After the photo walk Suzanne and I went to Town to the local Walmart to get supplies that we still needed for the rig. Also picked up a new space heater the one I was using in he main room that Suzanne sleeps in was not working very well. Then checked out the Town visitor Center to find out what attractions are in or around town to see.

Then it was back to the rig for a small surprise. We think, no we know Rosie the leader of all mischief somehow opened the lid of the dry dog food. By the time we came back 90% of it was gone, it had enough to feed both Spencer and Rosie for at least two weeks. All the dogs shared in the fest we are sure, but the evidence shows that my dear Rosie ate the most. Check out the photo.. Now all dogs are on a restricted diet for the next few days until this clears.

About five hours after returning we tried to take them on a walk Miller and Rosie both walked sort of, Spencer and Baby wanted nothing to do with it. All dogs act out of it some more then others. Poor Spencer is sick and does not want to move.

Took Photos of horses across fence from us, crazy to be in a park so close to homes…

Remainder of the day was spent watching television, reading, and cards….

I have now been here at The Escapee CARE Center for going on two months. It has been an adventures two months for me, I sold my Class C and Suzanne and I purchased a Class A. Had the fun of getting it registered in SD by phone, email, and snail mail.. OH!!! I do mean snail mail… Worked in the kitchen for the first month and been working on lawn care for the second. Thought I would get it done before leaving but now with the change in weather and the fact I am the only one in Maintenance for my last week, not to mention the Health Care Fair is also this week, not betting on getting as far as I wanted.. LIFE goes on.

As much as I like being here and the people, I am so ready to get back on the road and see some new sights.  First I have to go to Phoenix and get Suzanne onboard, also have to get a few things done to the rig so it can tow a car. Once we are set, it is off to SD by way of several NM State Parks, Stop to see and ride the Cog R/R in Colorado, stop at a favorite park in SD, visit some friends in SD, then we will get Suzanne her SD Lic. and Registration. At that time we will get all the paperwork fixed so both our names are on them just in case…

Except for the fore mentioned stops we will take things on a day to day basis and see what happens and where we end up. After SD it will be off to Alaska by way of Canada..

One week from today I leave for Phoenix…. Back on the road again…. 🙂

My weekend in Texas

Things are moving along on my transfer of title/insurance/ registration for my new ( to me ) motorhome. So far I have been running around doing paperwork and sending it in to either SD for title and registration, or my insurance company. So far nothing is 100% completed. Thought my insurance was a done deal then noticed that the VIN# is off by one digit.. So now have to call and that fixed, sounds simple but betting it will not be..  Friday I sent all sorts of paperwork to SD trying to get my HM registration done, since I could not find the weight certificate that is supposed to come with the unit, ( never seen one yet ) I had to drive to a LOVE station that had a CAT Scale and get my unit weighed only cost $10 to get it, but $35 to send it overnight to SD. Seems SD only gives you 30 days to complete title and registration before you go into penalties.  So I hope I have sent everything needed, will know Monday or Tuesday I think. Once all the paperwork has arrived I will be told the cost and have to get the money to them before anything else can be done. Just hope I do not run out of time ( 30 days ) before it is done…

In between all this I have had my four rear tires replaced, and the two front  inspected so we are ready to hit the road. Have also resealed all the windows that show signs of leakage, replaced screws in several locations that were missing them and tried to fix one of the outside storage  compartment doors. The last will have to wait a spell until I can find a way to remove a bad screw ( think I will need a small hacksaw ) ..

The rest of the weekend I plan to relax, maybe even take a photo hike. ( been a few weeks since my last hike )  Took the hike but did not see anything today..
