First Photo Hike in Over 8 Months

Okay I might have gone nuts with the photos today. I know Cheyenne and Stumpy love it here, was all I could do to keep them out of the water at times. On the morning walk I about fell down in shock!! Spencer broke out into a run for a good five minutes. Do not recall the last time I say him run. I am not going to say much here, will let the photos speak for me. I will say it was great to sleep all night without any worries. Nice to have the days slow down again, and to just enjoy nature.

Caballo For two weeks

After doing Dogs and birds, I only had a short wait for the LP to be disconnected and I was on my way. After not driving the rig for several months I was surprised how easy it was to get back behind the wheel and drive. Stopped off at Cortez LP to get my onboard tank filled, then Wal Mart for printer supplies and some snack food. Pulled into my new home ( two weeks ) at noon and started to set things up. Made it in just in time to beat the high winds, I forgot how much fun this rig is to drive even in light winds.

All set up and dogs had first walk of the day at the park, will walk Spencer alone for now on. three is too much with all the new sights, sounds, and people. Love looking out my window and seeing trees and mountains and not any thing on the ground.

Hope to get some photos in the next day or so, plan to go on one hike a day without a dog so I can look at things. But for now here is what I see from my rig, and the rig at new site.

This was one long day of travel

Today we departed Kaycee Wy headed south on the I-25 to New Mexico. I was hoping to get as close as possible today to make tomorrow as easy as possible. Did do 370 miles out of the 575 so not to bad, however……  First thing that happened was when I noticed something wrong with the fresh water tank, but thought I would wait until we made a base camp again to look at it. HAHAHAHA..  Suzanne wanted to know something about it but when she touched it the whole thing came apart and water came out like a water fall. Make a long story less long, I cleaned out the drain pipe that came offm and reattaced it the best I could, and we headed back down the road. Lost 30 to 45 min…

Then we tried to get through Denver before rush hour only to get caught in road construction work and the rush hour traffic. Once passed Denver we hit a T-STorm that also included hail. Well that was enough for me… pulled into first RV park we found ( still raining ) Yogi Bear Park. What a rip off… $53.. one night ( no WIFI, no television of any kind ) dirt unleveled site..  Hooked up water and electric ( 30amp only )..  Will leave early in the morning and hope to make it to Raton NM tomorrow..

Forgot it hailed and rained again for 15-20 min after we arrived..

Photo hunt out of Reed Point MT.

Took the car to check out three fishing areas around Reed Point Mt. There are many others within a 50 mile radius but only did the three.

Pelican – River Right, Mile 442

3 camp sites; concrete boat ramp; access for trailers; latrine; open during established hunting seasons with no weapons restrictions. Directions: I-90 Exit 392 to North Frontage Road, west 12.2 miles, then north 0.3 miles on Lower Sweet Grass Road.

Have to say I was not real impressed with this one as a photo hunt area or even a great fishing spot. It was okay but if I was still fishing it is not the one for me.

Bratten – River Right, Mile 434

5 camp sites; gravel/river bottom boat ramp; access for trailers (max trailer length 25 ft); latrine; open during established hunting seasons with no weapons restrictions; Clark on the Yellowstone interpretive site. Directions: I-90 Exit 392 to North Frontage Road, then west 4.5 miles.

Second stop was better then the first, at least it had a hiking path away from the boaters, and I got a few nice shots.

Indian Fort – River Right, Mile 430

20 camp sites – fee charged; gravel/river bottom boat ramp; access for trailers; latrine; discharge of weapons prohibited.

Directions: I-90 Exit 392, to North Frontage Road, then north .5 mile to first left after crossing the bridge.

Okay now this is what I am talking about… If I was setup for solar and still fished, no never mind the fishing…. This is the place I would like to go if I ever come back to Reed Point, the camp sites are big enough for this 34ft rig and some are even pull throughs. So fill up the water in town ( about a mile ) have working solar and you have a great place for seven days.. If you like to fish I also think this was the best of the three..

During the drive to and from the fishing camps, I did get some shots of things around Reed Point MT..

Thought I recognized this RV Park

Pulled into “The Old West Rv Park ” Reeds Point Mt today. When we first pulled in something about it looked familiar, but that happens a lot so did not think much about it. Then we took the dogs for a walk and I am looking around town and saying I think I have been here before, but was not 100% sure until I went back in my photo history and pulled up photos taken in 2010 of Reeds Point MT..  So now at least I know I have been here…  This is to be our base of operations until Aug 22, when we start heading south again..

On the Road to Oklahoma ( FUN??? Adventures of S&S )

Early this morning we packed and folded the rig and hit the road to our next long stop, Buckhorn Campground Chickasaw NRA OK…  Not due to arrive until July 1st so have scheduled several stops in RV parks along the way. Today was not a great day for several reasons, first driving the first 65 miles on country roads that have 13% hills and hair pin turns is not much fun. Took me 90 min to go the first 45 miles, but then we found a Subway and stopped for breakfast and a short rest and dog walk.

Next we got onto I-40 west for about 110 miles before getting off to go to Trader Joe’s for cheese. ( FYI …. I can not eat cow cheese and T.D. is about the only place I can find sheep cheese. ) Well that did not work out to good, parking lot for T.D. was too small and nothing else around was big enough either. So I got to drive by and wish but that was it.. I could have made it with a class c, I would have tried if I was not towing a car, but could not see a safe way of doing it with the current setup.. So no cheese for me until?????? Oh yes!!! just to top off the day after we stopped in a Walmart parking lot to walk the dogs and reset the GPS, I noticed a liquor  store so walked over to buy some cold beer. Hay if I can not get cheese then a cold beer after a long drive would be nice. But I found the only liquor store in the USA that does not sell beer. So you think I should check out Walmart??? HaHaHa….  Asked several locals about it and was told it did not sell any liquor at all…  Having fun now…

Last 50 miles to the RV Park seemed to take forever!!!!!  It is now HOT!!! and very humid, gauge showed it to be 91 degrees inside the rig. Suzanne and I had problems with the heat but the poor dogs looked like they were about to pass out from it. Once in camp and a very nice place it is for  one night, we set up electric and water ASAP so to cool down the rig and used water to help cool down the dogs. Trick I just heard about is to put the paws in cold water to help cool them down, seemed to work because all stopped panting when we did it. So now we sit back and relax as best we can for tomorrow is going to be even longer, shooting for 300 miles….

Made in The Shade RV Park ( Granville TN )

Okay this is what happened….

Dog Creek park in KY was not the greatest, no internet, no telephone, and no television.. But the bad part was the Boy Scouts of USA Troop 135 took over the park for a week and turned it into a scout camp instead of an rv park..  Tents, canoes, bikes, dirty cloths hanging from poles. So when holding tanks filled instead of dumping and returning to our site ( paid until the 10th ) we broke camp and gambled in finding an rv park for five days. ( Suzanne also needed to do laundry ) ..

Found a passport America park in TN about 100 miles from our next National park, unfortunately it does not have television.. Internet does work if a bit slow, phone service is minimal at best, ( have to drive to PO up hill ) ….  Thing is a phone voice mail was left on the phone saying our reservations at the place in TN ( next stop on the 10th ) has been canceled!!  I called the 877 # and was told only the pool is closed, checked my reservation site and it shows all is good, still need to call a none 800 # to talk to someone in the park and see what is going on..

So now we are sitting here doing laundry…. and walking the dogs. Went to the lake early this morning and did get a few photos

Nothing exciting today

Did  a drive through of Sugerite Canyon SP, not much to show. It was all brown or burnt from the fires two years ago. Then went shopping to pick up a few items, checked out the place to get propane when we leave. Plan to do laundry, walk the dogs a few time and then spend the rest of the time doing nothing…

Slowly Making Our way North

We are now staying in an RV Park in Capulin NM for one week. Laying over for a week because of bad weather, COLD,WIND, and now SNOW. The park has Wi-Fi, sewer, electric, water, laundry, and the people are nice. What a difference from Storrie Lake. We are paying $14.50 a night here, paid $14.00 a night at the State Park for so much less. For fifty cents a night this place is 100% better to say the least.

Have been busy making reservations for the Cog Railway on April 25th, this is a train ride I have wanted to do since I first heard about it five or six years ago. SO looking forward to taking photos from the train and at the summit.

Also scheduled us to go to the Balloon Festival Oct 8-13 in New Mexico, will be meeting up with friends so it should be a lot of fun.

At the moment we are just doing our best to stay warm, it is 32f outside and dropping,  a freeze with snow is predicted for tonight.

First Day out of Phoenix

Back on the road out of Phoenix. At the last minute we decided to take the I-17 from Phoenix to Flagstaff and the I-40. I was nervous just about the whole time. This was a shake down run for the rig because I had never taken it up steep hills or towed a car behind. This way I did both at the same time and she did good. Slowed down to 30mph several times but then so did other RV’s and trucks. With every thing in mind I am happy with Turtle … ( Turtle is the rigs new name )

Last thing we did in Sun City before leaving was have breakfast at one of Suzanne’s favorite places.

Made it to our first stop on the way to SD, a one night stay at Root 66 RV Park in Sun Valley AZ, 200 miles from Phoenix. It is okay for a one night only stay, nothing to do here but sleep.

Dogs all seem to be doing okay so far, first day is always an unknown..
